Car Electronic Module Cloning

Car Electronic Module Cloning

Q. Why won’t a used electronic module hook up and start the engine for normal life to resume?
A. A replacement module will not be in-sync with your vehicle, it is not all about the immobiliser.

Data transfer, movement of data between two electronic modules is the correct way to proceed. No matter what you are looking to achieve, swapping memory components is not professional and can cause more problems. Data can be held in multiple memory parts which can be synchronised to each other.

Transferring the eeprom only can cause corruptions which sometimes cannot be repaired and the following symptoms.

  • Engine will not start
  • Running problems
  • Dashboard warnings

In cases (very few) where memory parts are security blocked, or data extraction from failed components is required, removing memory parts will be necessary. For this, you will need someone with the skills to proceed. ECU Decode has these skills and knowledge to work with the simplest of EEPROM to the most complex BGA and everything in between.

If you are replacing a module because the original has been diagnosed or suspected of having a fault. It is important the cloner knows of any such relevant information. We will ask questions because this will help us to not leave you dissapointed.

This is an example where a customer thought a replacement Petrol engine ECU was required. Two modules were sent for cloning, not that two were required as it unfolded.

An OBD chip tune ends with no engine start, A BRICKED ECU we are told. This terminology is code for failed during the process. It is not rocket science.

  • If you have CAN network problems in the vehicle
  • Using a cloned flash tool with no support
  • Not using a battery support
  • Writing a bad file

the answer will be here.

We offer recovery services for these situations. You will not need a cloning service or another ECU, if we receive your original at this point of failure before further modifications are made. If further attempts to self recover are made another ECU may be required.

So, you know you need a replacement module, but not sure how to proceed ? You will need to find a replacement unit that has the same manufacturers part numbers on the case. If your original ECU or Body Module still starts the engine, we can clone the data from the original into the replacement making that plug and play.

In the case of a full engine ECU clone we will carry across.

  • Immobiliser synchronisation
  • Engine performance maps (also known as calibration which is where a chip tune is written)
  • Coding (transmission variant, braking system etc)

This data can be spread over multiple memory components. After a full clone, you are ready to start your engine and normal life can resume.

Let us investigate a not so clear perspective, your module is water damaged or burnt to a crisp. It is dead and so is the vehicle. Cloning may still be possible even if we need to strip down the original module to extract the software manually, check it, repair it, and transfer this data into your replacement. If the original software is corrupt and beyond repair, we may still be able to offer other solutions, especially for Engine ECUs.

  • Switching off the immobiliser
  • Synchronising to immobiliser
  • Reset to new (For programming or self-learn subject to manuafacturer requirements)

Sending your modules to our company will give you more options.

We are here to help, we do not have all the answers about the faults in your vehicle, but can work to your instructions once you arrive at a decision.
